Deb's Tear Bread

This recipe is from Chef Deb Rogers. It's great for making flatbread, garlic bread and even pizza!

  • 1 ¼ cups warm water

  • 1 packet dry yeast

  • 2 T sugar

  • 3 T olive oil

  • 3 cups flour

  • 1 tsp. salt

Put the warm water in a bowl and sprinkle the on top.

Stir, add the sugar then let it sit 5 to 10 minutes.

Add the oil and 1 cup flour to the bowl.  Stir by hand 20 times and add the

salt. Add the remaining flour, but do NOT knead.

Simply stir to mix, then let the dough rest for 10 minutes.

The dough will rise a bit - simply punch it down.   Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

After 10 minutes - roll the dough out with your hands onto an oiled cookie sheet.  Pat the dough down to desired thickness.  Cook at 400 degrees for 18 minutes.

Note:  For flatbread, remove the pan after 10 minutes and brush top with olive oil.  Top as desired and continue baking for  remaining time or until done.
